Starting August 2005, the Indonesian government allowed citizens from Mainland China to apply for landing visa at Indonesia's airports and seaports. Under current rules, applicants must have a passport valid for six months or more and a return ticket to apply for a landing visa. The visa application fee is USD 25; visitors don't need to fill in an application form. A landing visa allows visitors to stay for up to 30 days. After the validity period of the landing visa expires, visitors can apply to the local immigration authorities for extension by 30 days, and the fee is IDR 250,000. If an immigration officer at the airport demands money, visitors can report to the local immigration authorities (Tel: 0062 -21-6073878; Fax: 0062 -21-5507187), or call the embassy or consulates of China in Indonesia for help.

Visitors who hold Chinese diplomatic passport or Chinese passport for public affairs or those who hold the passports of Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR can stay visa-free in Indonesia for 30 days. In principle, visa validity period extension is not allowed.

Entry Card and Exit Card must be completed upon entry, and the Exit Card must be provided to the immigration authorities upon exit.

Indonesia has in place rigorous immigration regulations. Visitors shall refrain from being engaged in activities other than the purpose of the visa granted. Violators face heavy penalties and even imprisonment.

Chinese tourists to Bali can apply for landing visa. Upon arrival at Bali's Denpasar airport, they can apply for a landing visa with their passport and a return air ticket. The visa allows them to stay for up to 30 days; the application fee is USD 25.

Special note

1. The day of arrival in and the day of departure from Bali also count towards the validity period of the landing visa. Those who leave after the visa's validity period expires face a fine and must pay an additional visa application fee.

2. If you do not fly directly to Bali but make a transfer in other cities, you'd better apply for a visa in advance; otherwise you will not allowed to clear Chinese Customs.
