Indonesia is a country with the world’s largest Muslim population. Muslims account for about 87% of the country’s total population. Pork and alcohol are forbidden. In public places, ladies are given priority. Men generally do not first reach out to shake hands with ladies, but if ladies first reach out their hand, men can gently shake hands with them.

Left hand is considered unclean, so left hand is not used to accept gifts or to pass items. Indonesian diet leans towards spicy and fried foods.

Indonesia’s national costume is called Batik, which can be worn on formal occasions.
