Nyingchi prefecture is one of the only pure lands rarely visited by humans in the world. It has been the hallowed land for expeditions and adventures, which has caused inconvenience related to tourism and traffic. Nyingchi Mainling Airport is located in the Brahmaputra valley on the southeast Tibetan Plateau. The unique plateau terrain and harsh, variable weather conditions make it one of the domestic civil airports featuring the most complex air traffic clearance environment, weather conditions, navigation station layout, and flight procedures. In addition, it is one of the airports where it is the most difficult to guarantee on-time flight takeoff and landing and schedules, and one of the airports that is most difficult to fly airplanes in the world. In July 2007, an Air China Boeing 757 installed with sophisticated navigation equipment (RNP) successfully completed a test flight from Nyingchi Mainling Airport, signifying Air China is an airline with the ability to fly the Nyingchi route and making Nyingchi Air China’s third destination in Tibe.
1. Bus
The bus terminal of Nyingchi Bayi Town is the major transport hub in Nyingchi. Shuttle buses here depart to Mainling, Nang Zong, Bomê County, Pai Town and Zay, and long distance buses offer routes to Chengdu, Lhasa, Qamdo and Shannan.
2. Taxi
There are taxi, man-powered tricycles and other modes of transportation in Nyingchi. Due to the complex terrain, it is recommended to choose a chartered taxi for multiple people or rent a jeep to visit scenic attractions. The price varies, but the advantage is self-determined routes without time limit.
Nyingchi has undulating and complex terrain, which contributes to a wide range of coexisting tropical, subtropical, temperate and frigid climate conditions, all of which are humid. Thus, the climate in different parts of Nyingchi varies. The Grand Canyon area alone shows different climatic characteristics depending on the altitude.
