Unaccompanied Minor (UM)

If your child has reached the age of 5 but is under the age of 12 and plans to travel alone, we can provide UM services.


Requirement on age
Our UM services are meant for children who have attained the age of 5 but are under the age of 12, and who are not accompanied by any adult who has attained the age of 18 during travel.
Children who have attained the age of 5 but are under the age of 12 and plan to travel alone can only be accepted for carriage after going through the relevant UM formalities.
Children under the age of 5 and deaf and blind children under the age of 16 are not accepted for carriage.
If you request UM services for your child during the whole journey on flights operated by Air China and carrying the code ¨CA〃 and the journey involves a connecting flight in Beijing, your child must meet the requirement on age in every flight segment.
If your child has attained the age of 12 but is under the age of 18, or if your child is deaf/blind and has attained the age of 16 but is under the age of 18, you can request the UM service of your own accord.

Flights
We provide UM (Unaccompanied Minor) service on Air China-operated, CA-coded flights, including domestic/international/regional nonstop flights or flights with connections via Beijing (the whole journey is operated by Air China).
We do not accept any request for UM service on interline connecting flights between Air China and another carrier (the whole journey is operated by both Air China and another carrier).

Services we provide
We will provide an unaccompanied minor with a small hanging bag which can help your child keep all travel documents and boarding passes.
Your child needs to hold the valid ID used at the time of ticket purchase and the ¨Request for UM Services〃.
Our dedicated ground service staff will help your child with check-in, customs clearance, security check and baggage check, accompany him/her while he/she waits for boarding, and keep all the travel documents.
After boarding, our ground service staff will hand over all relevant documents and your child to flight attendants, who will in turn take good care of your child. The flight attendants will make sure that your child will have a happy journey. In case of flight delay, we will have dedicated staff take care of your child, and we will keep you informed. In case of flight cancellation, we will promptly contact you so that you can come to pick up your child.
