Visitors carrying the following items do not need to declare and can use the airport customs’ green channel (NOTHING TO DECLARE) for customs clearance: reasonable quantities of personal items whose total value does not exceed THB 10,000 (excluding restricted or prohibited items), 200 cigarettes (a carton) or 250 grams of tobacco (or cigars), or up to 250 grams of cigarettes and cigars put together; up to 1 liter of liqueur or spirits. For a group of visitors, each individual visitor should buy and carry duty-free cigarettes and alcohol separately – it is not allowed to put cigarettes and alcohol of a number of visitors into the baggage of one individual visitor, and place it under the custody of one single visitor immediately after customs clearance. As the law of Thailand stands, such practice is illegal – a number of persons putting their separately purchased duty-free cigarettes and alcohol together in the baggage of one person is considered the equivalent of one person carrying cigarettes and alcohol that exceed the prescribed quantities, and the items carried will be confiscated and the person carrying such items face a hefty fine and even imprisonment.

Visitors who carry the following items shall declare to the customs, and use the red channel (GOOD TO DECLARE) for customs clearance: unreasonable quantities of personal items, items whose value exceed THB 10000 or items used for commercial and trade purposes; items for which export license should be obtained from Thailand’s competent authorities like Buddha statues, cultural relics, religious artworks, plants, animals, pets, animal products, weapons, ammunitions, etc. Visitors who fail to declare items that should be declared face a fine that is 4 times the sum of the value of the items carried and the payable tax, or an imprisonment term of over 10 years, or both, and the items that are not declared will be confiscated. It is strictly forbidden to carry the following items into and out of Thailand: anesthetics, drugs, pornographic materials and books, counterfeit money, counterfeit and pirated goods and protected animals. As Thailand law stands, any person who carries or smuggles drugs could face death penalty. So, in no circumstance should you carry any items or luggage for someone else, lest there be drugs or other contrabands in such luggage.

Visitors who carry plants, animals, pets or animal products into Thailand shall apply in advance to the Thailand Department of Agriculture. If such application is approved, an animal and plant quarantine certificate will be issued, which can be used for customs clearance.
