Restricted baggage items

Items not advisable to include in checked baggage

 

Cash, securities, jewelry, valuable metal and metalwork , curio, calligraphy and paintings, computers, personal electronic devices, samples, important documents and materials, travel certificates, medicine that should be taken timely, and other important items.

 

Items subject to Air China’s consent for carriage

 

Precision instruments, electrical products and precision equipment

 

Acoustics, washing machines, refrigerators, computers, recorders, etc. should be transported as checked baggage and either have the original factory packaging or Air China approved packaging. The items above are not covered by free baggage allowance and shall be charged as overweight baggage. Air China will be held responsible for such items in accordance with Air China’s checked baggage policy.

 

Athletic sports equipment

 

Sports guns and bullets should only be carried as checked baggage along with the required certificates issued by the competent authorities. They should be locked and packed separately and their carriage is subject to Air China’s approval. Each passenger can check bullets of up to 5kg (11 lbs) (gross weight). Passengers traveling in groups should pack their bullets separately. These items would not qualify for the free baggage allowance and would be charged as overweight baggage. Passengers who check guns and bullets should complete all the required formalities 90 minutes before departure.

 

Small animals

 

Small animals (domesticated cats or dogs only) must not be brought into the cabin and must be carried as checked baggage. Passengers who travel with a small animal should contact Air China in advance to arrange transportation.

Foldaway or electronic wheelchair used by passengers during their journey

 

Both manual-operated and electronic wheelchairs should be carried as checked baggage. They can be carried as checked baggage for free but do not count towards free baggage allowance. If a passenger needs to use his/her wheelchair for the trip from check-in counter to boarding gate, subject to the consent of Air China, the wheelchair can be checked right at the boarding gate.

 

Checked electronic wheelchair must be packed in a way that meets the following requirements:

 

Wheelchair with leak-proof battery: It must be ensured that the battery does not have a short circuit and it should be securely installed on the wheelchair.

Wheelchair without leak-proof battery: The battery should not be installed on the wheelchair and should have protective packaging. It should be leak-proof and fixed with a belt, fixture or bracket on the pallet or in the cargo compartment. It must be ensured that the battery does not have a short circuit and is filled with suitable absorption material to absorb any leaked liquid.

The packing will be marked as either “BATTERY, WET, WHEELCHAIR”, or “BATTERY, WET, WITH MOBILITY AID”. Additional labels will be added saying “CORROSIVE” and “UPWARD”.

Sharp items, Blunt Items

 

Items of such nature could include medical tools whose blade is less than 6cm (2.4 inches) and sharp special cut tools and blunt tools whose blade is over 6cm (2.4 inches). Examples include kitchen knife, fruit knife, dinner knife, technique knife, bistouries, scissors, reaphook, performance tool, sword, lance, curio or travel souvenirs, iron prick, axe, short stick and sinker, etc. These items should be placed in checked baggage and are not allowed into the cabin.

 

Dry ice, liquid drinks, liquid cosmetics and household products

 

Dry ice can either be carried as checked baggage or as carry-on baggage. Dry ice should be refrigerated in low temperatures. Each passenger can carry dry-ice of up to 2.5kg (5 lbs). In accordance with the regulations of CAAC, a passenger should not travel with more than two bottles (each bottle should not be over 500ml) of carbonated drinks, mineral water, tea, milk, yoghurt, juice, etc. Passengers can purchase drinks after security check at airport in accordance with airport security rules. Except for alcohol purchased after the security check at the airport, no alcohol should be carried. Each passenger can carry up to 2 bottles of alcohol, with each bottle under 1kg and the total volume under 1000ml.

 

Passengers can carry bottled collar cleaner, mousse, brightener, insecticides, and air freshener of less than 350ml in volume as well as perfume of less than 500ml. Passengers are not allowed to carry items of similar nature that are over 1000ml or 1kg (2.2 lbs) in volume.
