Rules for Emergency Exit Row Seats

Regulations on Passenger Arrangements for Exit Row Seats

Exit row seats refer to seats from which passengers can directly access the exit without having to bypass an obstacle and the seats from the exit to the nearest aisle that passengers must pass by when arriving at the exit. In order to ensure operational safety, each passenger should comply with Air China's restrictions on exit row seats. In the event of an emergency evacuation, passengers in exit row seats must act as a rescuer and assist the crew in helping other passengers escape.

1. Restrictions on exit row seats

Passengers within the following scope are not allowed to be seated in exit rows:

(1) Passengers under the age of 15, passengers accompanying infants (children), elderly passengers aged 65 and over, as well as passengers who are pregnant, ill, injured or have a disability.

(2) Passengers who require an extended seat belt.

(3) Passengers with impaired vision, hearing or ability to communicate.

(4) Passengers who are unable to read and understand the "Passenger Information Card for Exit Row Seats."

(5) Passengers who are unable to understand the instructions of the flight crew and the emergency evacuation signs.

(6) Passengers who are unable to open the emergency exit doors, assess the state of evacuation slides, operate evacuation slides, and guide others along the emergency exit routes to the emergency exits and slides.

(7) Other passengers who are not suited to being seated in an exit row seat.

2. Passengers' obligations and rights

In the event of an emergency evacuation, passengers in exit row seats are required to act as a rescuer and assist the crew in helping other passengers escape.

If you believe that you are not eligible to take an exit row seat or are unable to perform your duties as an exit row seat passenger, please select another seat. If you have already boarded the plane, please request a change of seat from a staff member.

You have the right to propose a change of seat if Air China has assigned you an exit row seat but you are unwilling to assume or perform the duties of an exit row seat passenger.

3. Air China's rights

(1) Air China reserves the right to assess whether passengers meet the requirements of exit row seat passengers in accordance with civil aviation laws and regulations.

(2) If you do not meet the passenger requirements for an exit row seat, Air China will not be able to seat you in an exit row seat. If you have selected an exit row seat, staff members have the right to change your seat.

(3) Right to refuse carriage

Air China reserves the right to refuse carriage in the event of the following circumstances:

A. A passenger does not have the capacity to be seated in an exit row seat but the only seat available on board is an exit row seat.

B. A passenger does not have the capacity to be seated in an exit row seat and does not follow instructions given by the crew or staff for changing from an exit row seat.
