Notice on the Regulations Regarding the Use of Portable Electronic Devices (PED) on Air China’s Aircraft

Dear passengers:

Effective from 00:00 January 21, 2018,Beijing time, you can use the portable electronic equipment (PED) on Air China-operated flight, subject to the required regulations. For safety reasons:

I. A total ban is imposed on the use of electronic devices on board for the whole journey, including but not limited to portable electronic devices  with transmission power of 100mW (inclusive) above and Wi-Fi frequency not on 2.4GHz band, such as mobile phone without transmission power labels, satellite phones, mobile Wi-Fi, walkie talkie, UAV remote control platform, remote control toys and other remote control portable electronic devices.

II. The use of some types of portable electronic devices is NOT allowed in the critical stages of flight, such as taxiing, takeoff, climb, approach and landing, but is allowed in the non-critical stages. Such devices include, but are not limited to:

1.  Portable Oxygen Concentrator (POC) of non-certified brands;

2. Laptop, portable tablet, etc.

III. Electronic devices whose use is allowed during the entire journey include but not limited to: Pacemaker; hearing aids; electronic devices that will not affect aircraft navigation and communication systems and help maintain life such as certified Portable Oxygen Concentrator (POC) and Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. (CPAP); small portable electronic devices that can be held with a single hand such as smart phone, e-book, video player, game device and so on (these can be used during the entire flight if the cellular communication function is turned off and the flight mode is chosen. During the critical stages of flight, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth should be shut down, and it is not allowed to connect them with peripheral devices such as earphones, charger, data connector, etc.; it is not allowed to use voice and data communication.

IV. During the flight, if the captain found the presence of electronic interference, suspecting that such and electronic jamming interference comes from your portable electronic devices, and when the captain must perform low visibility operational procedures and activate emergency evacuation, in order to prevent the interference with aircraft communication and navigation precision equipment, we have the right to demand you to shut down your PED. If you violate the regulations on the ban, restriction and use regarding PED, refusing to obey the instructions of our crew, and if the circumstances are serious, we shall have the right to hand you over to the public security organs after landing for further handling based on the laws.
