Free baggage allowance for combined transport service

Effective April 1, 2011, in accordance with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) rules on baggage transportation, Air China’s operating standards will be applied to tickets purchased for flights that are operated solely by Air China.

Free baggage allowances and excess baggage charges for Air China interline tickets issued with foreign airlines have been changed. Except for routes from/to the United States and Canada, the free baggage allowance on other interline routes shall refer to the standards published by the MSC (Most Significant Carrier). Under normal circumstances, the carrier operating the longest flight distance or the most important segment in your itinerary will be the main carrier.

If Air China acts as the MSC on your itinerary, then the free checked baggage allowance will follow the standards of Air China’s free baggage polices for domestic, international or regional routes.

If the MSC on your itinerary is another airline, then the free checked baggage allowance will be determined in accordance with the standards of that airline.
For Air China interline tickets issued with foreign airlines after July 25, 2012 (inclusive) traveling from/to the United States, and interline tickets issued after October 1, 2014 (inclusive) travelling from/to Canada, free baggage allowances and excess baggage charges shall be based on those published by the First Marketing Carrier according to the U.S. Department of Transportation as listed in the ticket.

Baggage Policies for major airlines in The United States and Canada:

In order to avoid delays, if you need to check your baggage, please arrive at the airport as early as possible to allow enough time to complete the check-in process.
