Chinese citizens holding valid diplomatic passport and passport for public affairs as well as the accompanying persons who use the same passport don't need to apply for a visa upon for entry, exit or transit, and generally they can stay for 30 days in the country. For an extended stay, the Vietnamese organization which hosts the visitors should submit an application to the immigration authorities of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam.

Chinese citizens holding valid ordinary passport shall apply for visa in advance for entry, exit or transit. The embassy and consulates of Vietnam in China issue three types of visa: D (short-term), C1 (tourism ) and B3 (business).
