According to the regulations of the Indian Customs, passengers who carry cash in excess of SUD 5,000 or the equivalent in foreign currency must declare. Chinese travelers can carry gifts not exceeding 4,000 rupees in value plus 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars, or tobacco of 250 grams and spirits of 1 liter.

In India, live animals, beef and bovine innards, pork, live fish, eggs, textile products, precious stones, plants and seeds, some pesticides, pharmaceuticals and chemicals, electronic products and genetic products are subjected to the important licensing system. It��s state-run enterprises that specialize in crude oil, minerals and food. For example, state-owned oil companies specialize in the import of petroleum products, state-owned minerals and metals trading companies specialize in the import of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and complex chemical fertilizers, and state-owned trading companies specialize in the import of such pharmaceutical products like Vitamin A, the State Trading Corporation specializes in the import of oil and seeds, and India Food Corporation specializes in the import of cereal products. India bans the import of wild animals and related products, ivory, animal fat products and hazardous wastes.

To stabilize prices, curb inflation and protect the domestic market supply, the Indian government banned the export of sugar, lentils and wheat in June 2006, wheat and its flour in October 2007, edible oil in March 2008, non-BASMATI rice (and raised the lowest export price of BASMATI rice) in April 2008, cotton products and cotton wastes in April 2010, onions in December 2010, and milk powder and other milk products in February 2011.
