2.Basic Information
The airport, named after John Foster Dulles, the 52nd Secretary of State of in the history of the country, is 43 kilometers west of downtown Washington, D.C. It’s the busiest airport in the Washington metropolitan area. On a typical day, more than 60,000 passengers pass through Washington Dulles to and from more than 125 destinations around the world. It is a hub for the United Airlines.

The airport has a main terminal and two midfield terminals with Concourses A/B and C/D and 123 gates.

Air China uses Lufthansa’s First Class/Business Class lounges located close to Gate B51 in Concourses A/B to serve its premium passengers.
First Class passengers can access the First Class Lounge, while Business Class passengers and PhoenixMiles Platinum/Gold members, Business Class Lounge, with PhoenixMiles Platinum/Gold members each allowed to take one guest into the lounge who’s to fly on the same flight of the day.

Bus+Metro:
No buses from the airport provide direct access to Washington DC, but you can board a Washington Flyer Silver Line Express bus (5 USD) to Wiehle-Reston East metro station and then transfer to Metro’s Silver Line which is a direct link to Washington D.C.
Taxis:
A taxi ride from the airport to Washington D.C. takes about 40 minutes and costs 60-70 USD. A tip to the driver is expected. The passenger pickup point of taxis is located at the Dulles Airport Ground Transportation Center, down the ramps towards Gate 2 and Gate 7.
Washington Flyer Shared Van:
Washington Flyer Shared Van service is available all year round. Seven-passenger vans provide easy access to Washington, D.C. The shared van counters are located at the Dulles Airport Ground Transportation Center, down the ramps towards Gate 2 and Gate 7.

1.Metro
The Washington Metro serves the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and several jurisdictions in Maryland and Virginia. In Maryland, the Metro links to Montgomery and Prince George's counties, and in Virginia, to Fairfax and Arlington counties and the independent city of Alexandria. It has five lines identified with different colors including red, orange, blue, green and yellow, 86 stations and tracks that extend for 171 kilometers in total length.
2.Buses
The city has an extensive network of buses linking to all parts of the city. A good option to get around in the city is Metrobus, a regional bus service that connects to all Metrorail stations and feeds into other local bus systems around the region.
Greyhound, an intercity bus operator, serves over 3,800 destinations across the United States, Canada and Mexico. A one-way ride from New York to Washington on Greyhound takes about 4-5 hours and costs 35 USD, and a round-trip ride, 65 USD.
3.Taxis
Washington’s taxi companies divide the city into different operating zones, and within the same zone, a ride costs 1.5 USD, irrespective of the distance of travel.
You can call for a taxi from your hotel or restaurant or hail a taxi at the taxi zone close to a bus station. There could be a surcharge for large baggage. A tip is expected.
4.Car Rental
It’s easy to rent a car, and rentals differ according to car size, car brand and rental period. You need to present your passport, international driver’s license and credit card.
Washington has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons. Spring and fall are warm, while winter is chilly with annual snowfall averaging 15.5 inches. Winter temperatures average around 3.3°C from mid-December to mid-February. Summers are hot and humid with a July daily average of 26.6°C and average daily relative humidity around 66%. Blizzards affect Washington on average once every four to six years.
