Spring: Spring begins between late March and late April, and spring rain accounts for approximately 40% of annual precipitation;
Summer: Hot but not stifling, with wide fluctuations in temperature between day and night and an average temperature of 23 degrees Celsius;
Fall: Fall begins in late August. Temperatures decrease rapidly in late September, and there are wide fluctuations in temperature between day and night in October, as illustrated by the proverb, “People wear fur coats in the morning, light silk clothes at noon, and dine on watermelon in the evenings around hot stoves”. This is a vivid portrayal of late autumn weather in Urumqi;
Winter: The Tianshan Mountains form a barrier that serves to hold cold air in the basin, so heavy snow is a major feature of winter in Urumqi.
