2.Basic Information
South Africa’s busiest airport and also one of the southern hemisphere’s busiest airports serves about 16 million passengers a year. It’s located on a highland east of Johannesburg, and thin air requires that longer runways be built to ensure that aircraft can get airborne more easily in the thin air - 03L/21R, which extends over 4400 meters, is one of the world’s longest runways. The airport is a transit hub for flights to and from South America, central and southern parts of Africa and the Asia Pacific region.
3.Terminal Information
The airport has 3 terminals: International Terminal on the northern side, International Terminal B on the southern side and Domestic Terminal. The International Terminal B is sandwiched between its two counterparts. The three terminals are connected by corridors and a walk takes 5-15 minutes.

Air China uses the airport-run Bidvest Lounge to serve its First Class/Business Class passengers and Air China PhoenixMiles Platinum/Gold members (Star Alliance Gold members). PhoenixMiles Platinum/Gold members can also invite one guest into the lounge who is to take the same flight on the same day. The lounge offers WIFI access, smoking zone, shower, business center, bar as well as snacks and drinks. It is in service 24 hours a day and everyday in a week. Passengers can also pay cash for access.
7.Airport Transportation
Located 27 kilometers east of Johannesburg, the airport is easily accessible by highways R21 and R24. There are a number of options for a trip between the airport and downtown, including UBER car, taxi and subway.
UBER:
Costs vary according to the types of car. The fare is usually 22 ZAR+1.6 ZAR (per minute) +16 ZAR (per kilometer). A 100 ZAR cancellation fee is to be collected in the case of a cancelled reservation.
Taxi:
Reservations must be made at the designated car rental locations.
Gautrain:
The trains run at 20-minute intervals. A trip between the airport and Sandton costs 151 ZAR. The earliest train departs from Sandton at 4:50 and the last train departs from the airport at 9:04.

1.Buses:
Johannesburg boasts a well-established network of buses offering easy access to all major streets. Buses run from 08:00 to 18:30. Bus maps are available for purchase at the ticketing office of the City Hall.
2.Taxis:
Taxis run around the clock and the fare is 10 ZAR per kilometer. If you need a taxi, you can call a taxi company directly or ask your hotel reception to make the call for you. Taxis usually do not go around in town to pick up passengers.
