2. Basic InformationAs one of the three airports in the Delhi region, the New Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport accommodates only international flights. Named after Indira Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India, it is the second busiest airport in India based on the number of daily flights. The new Terminal 3 (T3) opened in 2010 to house the international flight operations of all airline companies that serve New Delhi. Passengers with connecting flights can transit between T1 and T3 on free shuttle buses by showing their tickets for the connecting flight. Passengers transiting between the New Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport and Delhi’s domestic airport six kilometers away can use the free shuttle bus if they have tickets for a connecting flight. Passengers without connecting flight tickets must use alternate transportation between the terminals by their own.
3. Terminal InformationThere are four terminals at New Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport: International Terminal (Terminal II), Terminal 1A, Terminal 1B, and the Domestic Arrival Terminal.

1. Subway
Delhi has an extensive but overcrowded ground transportation network, so the subway often is a more convenient choice. There are 7 subway lines, including an airport express line linking the airport with the downtown area; and dedicated cars are available for “women only” on most trains. The basic metro fare is 6 Rupees and the maximum fare is 22 Rupees, with an incremental fare of 1 or 2 Rupees for every 2 or 3 stations.
2. Bus
The population of Delhi is about 15 million. The bus system handles 60% of the passenger traffic in Delhi and occupies 20% of available road space, so traffic jams are a very serious problem here. Delhi has more than 7,000 buses on more than 600 bus lines, earning Delhi the distinction of operating “The World’s Longest Urban Public Transport Line.

Prepaid taxi service is available in the downtown area. If you name a destination, the driver will quote a price, which is often negotiable. In downtown Delhi, there is a unique tri-wheeled taxi called Auto Richshaw, which is powered by compressed natural gas and equipped with a fare meter for calculating the cost of each trip. Since this agile beast can weave its way through a traffic jam, it is a very popular means of transport among locals.
