1. Airport Name:Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport
2. Basic Information
Qingdao's new airport is located on Jiaodong Street in the city of Jiaozhou, Qingdao, approximately 59 km from the heart of Qingdao and 11 km from the center of Jiaozhou. With a total investment of CNY 36.039 billion, the Civil Aviation Administration of China's "twelfth five-year development plan" is the "gateway to Japan and Korea" and a "regional hub for Northeast Asia". The new airport has a 4F operating class, meaning it hosts the largest aircraft types, such as Airbus 380 and Boeing 747, are able to take off from and land on the 3600-meter-long runways (which are spaced 2200 meters from each other). The terminal is 478,000 square meters large — more than sufficient for accommodating the annual throughput of 35 million passengers, 500,000 tons of cargo and mail, and 300,000 take offs and landings.
3. Terminal Information
Qingdao's new airport is the world's first single-piece five-finger corridor-shaped terminal (as decided at the 36th Executive Meeting of the 15th Qingdao Municipal People's Government on 30 December, 2013). The inspiration for the building's shape came from a starfish shape and the Chinese character 齐. The five corridors are seamlessly joined to the lobby by means of a tensioned, continuous curve. Achieving an optimal balance between large-scale centralization and modularity, the building is holistic, well laid out and rich in potential. The terminal is 470,000 square meters, with 73 terminal stands (currently the largest airport of its kind in China — the Kunming Airport terminal building is 520,000 square meters with 63 terminal stands, while Beijing Airport's terminal building is 970,000 square meters with more than 70 terminal stands) to ensure efficient operation.
